Myanmar has declared a week of national mourning after a devastating earthquake claimed the lives of 2,056 people, left more than 3,900 injured, and over 270 missing.
The death toll continues to rise as hopes fade for finding more survivors beneath the rubble.
Flags will be flown at half-mast until April 6 in memory of the victims and in solidarity with grieving families affected by the disaster.
The earthquake, which struck on Friday with a magnitude of 7.7, has caused widespread destruction across the country.
Rescue operations have slowed in Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city with a population of over 1.7 million, which has been among the hardest-hit areas.
Emergency teams continue efforts to recover survivors and assess the full scale of the damage.
With thousands injured and many still unaccounted for, the disaster has placed immense pressure on Myanmar’s emergency response teams as they race against time to provide aid and support to affected communities.
