Official media announced today, Sunday, that the death toll from the powerful earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28 has risen to 3471, in addition to 4671 injured and 214 missing.

This comes as relief agencies stated that rain in regions of Myanmar in recent hours may complicate relief efforts and increase the risk of disease outbreaks, according to Sky News.

The relief agencies said that unseasonal rainfall combined with extremely high temperatures could lead to the spread of diseases, including cholera, among earthquake survivors who are camping in the open.

Tom Fletcher, visiting senior UN relief official, explained in a post on platform X: "Families are sleeping in front of the ruins of their homes, while the bodies of their loved ones are being pulled from under the rubble. There is great fear of more earthquakes."

He added: "We need tents and to give hope to the survivors as they rebuild their shattered lives."
