The military council in Myanmar has announced a week of national mourning for the victims of the devastating earthquake that struck last Friday, resulting in the deaths of around 1,700 people.
In an official statement, the military council stated that flags will be lowered at half-mast until April 6 in mourning for the victims and the losses caused by the powerful earthquake, which measured 7.7 on the Richter scale.
The destructive earthquake caused damage to dozens of buildings and led to the destruction of infrastructure, including the Mandalay airport. Its impact was felt over more than 1,000 kilometers, with residents in neighboring Thailand also experiencing the tremors, where at least 17 people were killed.
