The Muslim Council of Elders on Thursday extended its congratulations to Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, marking the 16th anniversary of his appointment to the prestigious post.
In a statement, the council praised Al-Tayeb’s leadership, describing his tenure as a distinguished journey of dedication that has reinforced Al-Azhar’s status as a global beacon of moderation and a leading reference for enlightened Islamic thought.
The council, which is chaired by Al-Tayeb, said the anniversary offers an opportunity to reflect on what it called an exceptional path of a global religious leader who has championed the causes of the Muslim world, promoted peace, and confronted extremist ideologies.
It also highlighted his role in advancing the values of dialogue, coexistence and human fraternity, noting his continued efforts to strengthen bridges of understanding among different cultures and religions.
The council concluded by praying for Al-Tayeb’s continued health and success, expressing hope that his efforts would remain a source of strength and pride for Muslims worldwide.
