American billionaire Elon Musk reiterated his call for establishing controls on artificial intelligence during the two-day Artificial Intelligence Safety Summit held in the United Kingdom, as per reports by the German news agency.

Musk engaged in a dialogue with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on the sidelines of the summit on Thursday.

He conveyed that while implementing controls might be cumbersome, over the years it has been acknowledged that having governance is beneficial.

Musk, who heads the electric vehicle giant Tesla, was quoted by Bloomberg expressing his views on AI being the most disruptive force in history, predicting a future where AI surpasses human intelligence.

Musk extrapolated that there will come a phase where jobs will not be a necessity, though people could still engage in employment if they wish.

He highlighted the ambiguity around whether such a scenario would bring comfort to humans and pondered on finding a sense of purpose in life amidst such future challenges.

In a related development, the British government unveiled the Bletchley declaration on Wednesday, a statement endorsed by 28 countries cautioning about the potential harms stemming from AI utilization.

Interestingly, China was among the countries that signed this declaration. Musk praised Sunak's decision to invite China to the summit as very good, noting that he had earlier discussions about AI safety during a visit to China earlier this year.

He appreciated China's readiness to engage in discussions about AI safety, expressing gratitude for its invitation and participation in the summit.
