French Lebanese artist Eliz Murad released a new love song on the occasion of Beirut Port Blast's first anniversary on Wednesday.

No one in the Middle East could remain untouched by the tragic events last August when a huge explosion rocked through the city. The tragic blast was seen around the world thanks to social media and was met with an outpouring of love for Beirut and its people.

Murad was also hugely impacted by the horrific events which affected her family. And she dealt with the emotions and events in her own way by composing her own ‘lullaby’ for the city in ‘Beirut.’

“Musically, ‘Beirut’ is a kind of powerful lullaby for adults and a tribute for this town and country that is a real burden for the Lebanese. Even abroad. Love and hate is in Beirut's air and DNA.

“I would like to offer the Lebanese people a gift, a sound bubble, a lullaby to soothe this day which will be difficult. And to others quite simply a song that will evoke what you want,” says Murad.

“Beirut is a phoenix city a thousand times destroyed, a thousand times rebuilt. Music is a personal way to soothe wounds and help us move forward by always staying connected to each other.”

You can hear that passion clearly on ‘Beirut’ which blends her influences including English, French and Lebanese music.

The track slowly builds thanks to a simple guitar line and Eliz’s heartfelt vocals that ‘dream’ of ‘rekindling the stars in your sky.’ Beirut then bursts into life with a burst of guitar energy, creating a neat metaphor for how the city can recover and come to life once more.

The single comes with an atmospheric video that further heightens the emotions in the track.

Beirut is the first single from Eliz Murad’s solo album APOCALYPSNA which is to be released on September 10th, 2021.
