Despite the political and security changes witnessed by Afghanistan recently, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has managed to maintain its medical activities in all hospitals across the country, Head of Programme Prue Coakley said.

"The core objective is to keep all hospitals open, and to keep our doors open for the patients," Coakley added in an Interview with INTV.

She added that the MSF is currently working on five medical projects in Afghanistan; A trauma hospital has been inaugurated in Kunduz province.

Moreover, Coakley continued that MSF is also running a number of pediatric and nutrition activities, as well as COVID-19 treatment center in Herat city.

In southern Afghanistan, MSF is supporting all departments of the main regional hospital in Helmand province, she added, noting that in Kandahar, MSF has launched a TB control programme.

"Our teams are studying opportunities to move out into different districts," the MSF Head of Programme said.

In Khost, MSF is running a major maternity hospital, Coakley noted, adding that MSF is also supporting 8 comprehensive health centers in various districts outside the city.

On the other hand, she highlighted that MSF is facing many issues and challenges related to the lack of movement options around the country, and supplies' transportation.

"We are working very hard to find ways to overcome any obstacles," Coakley noted.
