Health authorities in Ghana have reported 22 new cases of monkeypox (mpox), bringing the country’s total confirmed infections to 446.
The Ghana Health Service confirmed that one person has died from the virus to date. Officials noted that mpox is primarily transmitted through close contact with an infected individual.
The Ghanaian government first reported the emergence of mpox on 19 May this year, when four cases were detected. The first recorded death linked to the virus occurred on 28 July.
Public health experts continue to monitor the spread of the virus and are urging communities to maintain awareness of preventive measures, including avoiding close contact with symptomatic individuals and seeking medical attention promptly in cases of suspected infection.
