CAIRO, March 30 (SEE)-Dr. Ahmed Hossam Mowafy, professor of cardiology and critical care medicine at Kasr Al-Ainy, Cairo University and pioneer of internal medicine in Egypt, revealed to (SEE) causes and symptoms of high blood pressure.

Mowafy's talking took place in a colloquy held today by Scientific Research Academy under the title of “what you do and don’t know about hypertension”.

The doctor said that 1 out of 3 persons suffers from high blood pressure and 75% of hypertensive patients discover their illness by accident.

Regarding hypertension causes, Mowafy said that genetic factors, stress, high cortisone rate and excessive salt intake are the main reasons.

“Also, kidney dysfunction leads to hypertension and vice versa,” he demonstrated.

The doctor stated that there are 2 types of hypertension, either Primary or secondary one, and symptoms are represented in headache in back of head or in front of ears.

Mowafy pointed out that the disease treatment depends on doctors' several trials till finding the best suitable treatment according to each patient's case.

"Because of this disease’s ambiguity, many patients are already taking ineffective medication," he clarified.

He confirmed that following up with a specified doctor and measuring blood pressure every 2 months are two crucial steps to avoid any complications.

Regarding the complications of the disease, Mowafy said it negatively affects heart, brain, kidneys, eyes and can cause heart attack, kidney failure and in worst cases it can lead to death.
