Indonesia’s Mount Semeru erupted nine times in a single day, sending massive ash plumes up to 1,000 meters above the summit, as authorities maintained high alert levels and warned residents to stay away from danger zones.

The volcano, located in East Java and standing at 3,676 meters, recorded its first eruption just after midnight, producing an ash column that rose approximately 700 meters and drifted southward due to prevailing winds, according to monitoring data.

Officials said the most powerful eruption occurred early in the morning, when ash clouds reached their highest altitude of the day. Volcanic activity remains dominated by eruption-related seismic tremors, indicating ongoing instability.

Authorities have urged nearby communities to avoid high-risk areas around the volcano, emphasizing the potential for further eruptions and hazardous conditions.

Mount Semeru, one of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes, is closely monitored due to the country’s location along the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” where tectonic activity frequently triggers earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
