Moscow confused over Israel's oversensitive reaction against the backdrop of the Russian Ambassador in Tel Aviv Anatoly Viktorov's remarks in his recent interview with "Jerusalem Post", according to Russia Today (RT).
In a statement on Friday, Spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said that Viktorov's remarks in an interview with 'the Jerusalem Post' come in line with Russia’s well-known position on Middle Eastern issues.
In this regard, Zakharova pointed out that Russia generally positively views the normalization of relations between Israel and Arab countries, considering it as a way to establish new channels of civilized interaction based on international law standards.
Moreover, the Russian diplomate said Moscow believes that escalation and the refusal to engage in constructive dialogue only further complicate the efforts to look for compromises to achieve settlement of the Israeli-Palestine conflict.
The spokesman also referred to Russia's firm position that the Palestinian issue is a central issue for ensuring peace in the Middle East, stressing that long-lasting, and steady stabilization cannot be achieved without settling it.
It is worth mentioning that, Israel’s Foreign Ministry summoned Russian Ambassador Anatoly Viktorov on Wednesday over his remarks to a local newspaper.
“The problem in the region is not Iranian activities,” Viktorov said, “It’s a lack of understanding between countries and non-compliance with UN resolutions in the Israel-Arab and Israel-Palestinian conflict”.
