The Moroccan authorities are seeking to take urgent measures to cope with the looming water crisis.
The government has announced a set of measures to rationalize the use of water resources in the country, in light of the decline in dams' water and the drought caused by the lack of rainfall.
The Moroccan Ministry of the Interior called on governors to activate water committees to ensure the implementation of strict measures to rationalize water use.
The ministry also stressed the need to prevent the illegal withdrawal of water from wells and waterways, in addition to prohibiting the washing of streets and public places with drinking water, and preventing the use of this water to wash trucks and machinery.
These instructions come at a time when the Minister of Water, Nizar Baraka, warned of a shortage of water reserves.
In this regard, the environmental engineer, and expert in climate issues, Mohamed Benabou, warned of the creep of thirst in about 50 cities, predictions made by experts since the beginning of the year.
