Condolences poured in from across the Arab world for Algeria, after President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced three days of national mourning starting from Thursday to mark the advent of a bushfires disaster.

On Friday, King Mohamed VI, the Ruler of Morocco, extended his condolences to Algerian authorities and citizens over the casualties of the deadly wildfires in Tizi Ouzou state.

He also stressed Morocco's solidarity with Algeria, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

“Our sympathies and prayers are with Algerian families of the victims of that horrific disaster, and we wish a speedy recovery to the survivors,” he said.

It's worth mentioning that the death toll in fires ravaging mountain forests and villages in Algeria's Berber region jumped Friday to 69 people, including 28 soldiers, according to the Algerian latest reports.

Meanwhile, the people of Algeria were forced to evacuate in order to escape the flames began trickling back to their homes, overwhelmed by the scale of the damage.

In response to this disaster, soldiers and civilian volunteers have joined firefighters on multiple fronts to extinguish the blazes that have been fanned by windy and tinder-dry conditions

Flags were flying at half-mast after the country declared a three-day mourning period this week to honor the lives lost.
