On Sunday, rescue operations for Moroccan earthquake victims have ended, and foreign aid teams have begun leaving the country.

Earlier, a 4.8-magnitude aftershock struck central Morocco, affecting residents of the Taroudant and Al Haouz regions.

An official at the Moroccan Institute of Geophysics said the aftershock occurred in the Ajel area in the Al Haouz province, southwest of Marrakesh. This area was the epicenter of the initial earthquake that struck the region.

The death toll from the devastating earthquake that struck central Morocco has risen to 2,946 dead and 5,674 injured, according to what the Moroccan Ministry of Interior announced. Rescue efforts and search for missing persons are continuing.

The Moroccan army is leading the relief efforts, with the support of relief teams and groups from several countries.

However, difficult terrain, damaged roads and the remoteness of some villages have complicated these efforts.
