On Tuesday, in Rabat, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita confirmed that the announcement of a ceasefire in Lebanon is a positive development, but emphasized the importance of respecting it and building on it to create conditions that preserve Lebanon's unity and territorial integrity.
Speaking at a joint press conference with his Djiboutian counterpart following their talks, Bourita praised the international efforts to implement a ceasefire in Lebanon and put an end to the repeated attacks on Lebanese lands and people.
Bourita noted that international initiatives aimed at creating stability in Lebanon are "crucial," expressing hope that the ceasefire declaration would be respected, despite "violations in its implementation by the parties involved."
The minister also expressed optimism that the ceasefire could open a path to the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which concerns southern Lebanon, underscoring the importance of strengthening Lebanon's national institutions to enhance the security and safety of its people.
Bourita stressed that under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, Morocco firmly supports Lebanon’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, affirming that Lebanon’s stability is essential for maintaining its unity and reinforcing the security and safety of its people.
He also reiterated Morocco's commitment to resolving the Palestinian issue, stating that it is "the best way to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East." He further explained that regional security and stability can only be achieved through a two-state solution, leading to an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders.
