76 People are missing after a boat sank off the eastern coast of Tunisia, after it set sail from the Libyan city of Zuwara, with 100 migrants on board, the Tunisian coast guard announced yesterday to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
In a statement, Coast Guard spokesman, Hossam El-Din El Jebali, confirmed that 24 migrants were rescued, while search operations are still underway for the remaining missing people off the coast of Sfax governorate (south-east), where the rubber boat sank.
He noted that the migrants are of African and Asian nationalities and that the Tunisian Navy managed to rescue eight others and retrieve one body.
Last Saturday, the Tunisian navy also announced the rescue of 81 migrants, including a woman, after they left the Libyan coast on a rickety boat.
