Maria Van Kerkhove, epidemiologist and the technical lead for WHO's Health Emergencies Program, said that Omicron is still in progress and there are now more than 500 sub-variants of the mutation.
She added that experts are working on detecting the recent sub-variants of Omicron.
Moreover, all Omicron variants can easily emerge and they are so infectious. However, they are less dangerous than Delta.
The dangers of Omicron are so close to the rest of the Coronavirus health risks that could cause severe symptoms or death.
Kerkhove highlighted that there are studies for upgraded treatments, protocols, and vaccines and their impact on the virus. She added that the current vaccines are effective and protective.
In the same context, the official revealed the process of detecting the mutations of Omicron worldwide to observe the possibility of the emergence of a more developed form of the sub-variant that could cause a real threat.
She concluded that the world is passing the fourth year of the pandemic and there is some sort of disappointment with the virus' restrictions, however, she asserted that people still need to follow those medical protective codes for controlling any further outbreaks.
