The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said that more than 2,600 people were displaced from Sudan’s South and North Kordofan states within a 48-hour period, amid continuing instability and insecurity in the region.
In a statement, the IOM reported that the newly displaced families were forced to flee their homes due to escalating violence and deteriorating humanitarian conditions, seeking safety in nearby areas with limited access to basic services.
The organization warned that the rapid displacement is placing additional pressure on already overstretched host communities, as many of the affected areas suffer from shortages of food, clean water, healthcare, and shelter.
The latest wave of displacement adds to Sudan’s growing humanitarian crisis, as ongoing conflict continues to uproot civilians across several regions of the country. Aid agencies have repeatedly called for improved humanitarian access and greater international support to address the urgent needs of displaced populations.
The IOM said it is closely monitoring the situation and working with partners to provide emergency assistance, while stressing the need for sustained efforts to protect civilians and prevent further displacement.
