Egypt’s Minister of Manpower Hassan Shehata said on Tuesday that Monday, 17 April, will be a paid holiday for private sector employees to celebrate Sham El-Nessim.
Employers can have their employees work on that day on the condition they pay the workers extra for working during a public holiday, a statement issued by the minister said.
Last week, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly declared 17 April a paid holiday for public sector employees.
Sham-El-Nessim is an ancient Egyptian festival that falls on the day after Easter Sunday each year.
