Moldova's state-owned Energocom and Bulgaria's Bulgartransgaz signed an agreement to transport gas through the Bulgarian company's gas transmission network.
The two parties inked the contract during Bulgarian President Rumen Radev's visit to Moldova.
"For us, this means conditions for the transit of gas that we will be able to get elsewhere. And in a period convenient to us. This means that we are creating the technical conditions for purchases from other sources," Moldovan President Maia Sandu said at a joint press conference.
Radev pointed out that 3 billion cubic meters of gas are transported between Bulgaria and Romania every year.
"The physical capabilities [the throughput capacity of Bulgaria's gas transmission system] are more than enough for the transit of gas from Bulgaria to Moldova," he noted, adding that Moldova will be able to purchase gas and Bulgaria transport it.
He also mentioned that the deal will allow access to the liquefied gas in the terminals of Greece and Turkey.
