Mojtaba Khamenei: The Choice of the IRGC and the Regime’s Intelligence-Security Apparatus

By Mansour Rakhshani

Ali Khamenei, who was willing to shed a sea of Iranian blood to preserve his mafia of power and wealth, has finally fallen into the pit of his own "auto-dynamic" punishment. This was the result of his strategic blunders—stretching from the war of October 7 to the 12-day war—and his persistence in nuclear bomb-making and his fraudulent claims of supporting the Palestinian people. He has joined his predecessors, the Shah and Khomeini, in the dustbin of history, leading millions of Iranians to celebrate this auspicious event. Subsequently, on March 9, 2026—just nine days after his death—Mojtaba Khamenei was declared his father’s successor without a public session or any legal process. This hasty move was not a religious or political selection, but rather an "intelligence-security coup." It was carried out by a circle of Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) and intelligence directors loyal to him and his father, fueled by the terror of a power vacuum and the desire to prevent the collapse of a deeply rotten, weak, and fractured structure. The move was executed by the regime's intelligence, security, and repressive institutions that hold the country's military, economic, and intelligence power in their hands.

The Engineering and Control of the Assembly of Experts by the IRGC and the Regime’s Security Apparatus: Repeating the Despotic Cycle of Hereditary Monarchy

Mojtaba Khamenei must undoubtedly be considered the candidate of the regime’s armed forces and security-intelligence agencies, as evidenced by credible international media. These forces engineered and operationalized this "silent coup" by trampling all political principles and even violating the "mullahs' own religious laws regarding the qualifications of a Supreme Leader."

The reality is that following the uprisings, the experience of the Iranian people's organized resistance, the massacres of the people, the terrorist designation of the IRGC, the global siege, and finally the removal of Khamenei, the regime is in a state of terror, disarray, and extreme weakness. Furthermore, as internal rifts deepen, any delay in introducing Mojtaba could have led to a power vacuum and the complete collapse of the regime under these precarious conditions. The Ministry of Intelligence and the IRGC Intelligence—who have years of experience in engineering the Assembly of Experts and eliminating rivals (such as the 2009 elections where they engineered Ahmadinejad’s appointment)—used pressure and threats to protect the power structure. They placed Mojtaba, who served as their liaison with his father and acted as the de facto successor, onto the throne of hereditary monarchy. This in itself was a message to both domestic and foreign audiences regarding the continuation of Ali Khamenei's policies.

Who is Mojtaba Khamenei? – "A Viper Does Not Give Birth to a Dove"

The fact is that for over three decades, Khamenei’s son has acted as the "Crown Prince" alongside his father. He is considered one of the primary leaders of suppression, the export of reactionary ideology and terrorism, and the looting of the Iranian people’s assets; he has effectively functioned in the role of his father’s successor. Through the slaughter and suppression of uprisings, the control of resources, the monopolizing of the Iranian economy, and the plundering of the country's capital, he has imposed the most ruthless oppression and exploitation on the majority of Iranians—especially women and the working classes, from nurses and teachers to workers, farmers, and retirees. His hasty introduction has destroyed the regime's legitimacy forever and is, in truth, a form of "self-harm." The Iranian people, who have experienced the tyranny of the Shah’s SAVAK and the mullahs’ IRGC and intelligence services, view this as a continuation of that same brutal suppression.

The Despotic Cycle of Hereditary Monarchy

The introduction of a "Crown Prince" under a system of horror and terror, without even maintaining the religious facade of the "Guardianship of the Jurist" (Velayat-e Faqih), has turned it into a despotic cycle. This is exactly the same monarchical tyranny that the Iranian people rose against on February 11, 1979, burying it in its historical grave! While dozens of high-ranking clerics were available for this role, Mojtaba was introduced as his father’s successor through the engineering and control of the Assembly of Experts by IRGC subordinates and intelligence officials who hold the country's military, economic, and intelligence power. This demonstrated that the deceptive clerics no longer even maintain a religious appearance; their corrupt and repressive system for murder and plunder has transformed into a hereditary mafia of absolute monarchy.

The Bitter Irony of History

The bitter irony of history is that in the battle between the "Shah's son"—whose job is to sow division among the opposition—and "Khamenei's son," Mojtaba emerged as the winner. This grants a point to the Shah's son, because by making the *Velayat-e Faqih* hereditary, Mojtaba has validated Reza Pahlavi's nostalgia for hereditary rule.

Perhaps it is time for the Shah's son to shut down his royal circus until Mojtaba dies!

In other words: by insisting on hereditary monarchy, the Shah's son paved the way for Mojtaba Khamenei’s hereditary leadership and practically granted it legitimacy. If the Shah's son has the right to inherit the throne, then Khamenei's son has an equal right to inherit the Absolute Guardianship of the Jurist. In their resemblance to one another, neither needs political knowledge or education to continue the dictatorships of their fathers.

A Democratic Republic for Peace and Freedom: The Political and Social Aspiration of the Iranian People

The introduction of Mojtaba Khamenei cannot salvage the grounded and shattered ship of the religious fascist system against the free will and relentless wrath of the heroic Iranian people. The appointment of this new "cleric-IRGC member" to leadership is not a sign of strength, but a sign of "self-harm" resulting from the regime's absolute weakness against a people who had already predicted this conspiracy and expressed their loathing with the slogan: "Mojtaba, may you die and never become a leader!"

This intelligence-security coup only extended the regime's life by a few months, but it destroyed its legitimacy forever. The Iranian people, who reject all forms of dictatorship, are moving toward achieving "Peace and Freedom" through the unity of ethnic groups, an organized nationwide uprising, and global support. They seek a democratic, secular, and non-nuclear republic established through free elections—an ideal for which they have been in a bloody struggle and uprising for 120 years. This is an uprising that will continue until total overthrow and victory.
