Mahmoud Mohieldin, World Bank Group Senior Vice President has been nominated for a senior international post due to be announced in the coming period. He will leave his position in WB to the new position.
Mohieldin has officially informed World Bank President David Malpass of his desire to leave his post and will not extend it after the end of his current term.
The World Bank issued a statement, announcing that Mohieldin, will end his work at WB and will not extend it after the end of the current period of office. His current tenure began in January 2016 and ends on January 10, 2020.
Mohieldin joined the World Bank Group as Director of the Bank in October 2010, as the first Egyptian and Arab to hold this position and became the First Vice President of the Group since January 2016.
He has held several positions at WB in recent years, including WB President Special Envoy to the United Nations for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). He was the WB Group Secretary-General and Executive Secretary to the International Development Committee. Mohieldin also represented the World Bank Group in the Group of 20.
The WB statement noted that Mohieldin implemented several important programs.
The statement said that Mohieldin was able to implement many important and sensitive programs internally and externally.
During his tenure as CEO from 2010 to 2012, he oversaw all Bank departments responsible for human and sustainable development, poverty reduction programs, economic and financial management, and private sector development, as well as the World Bank Institute.
Since January 2013, Mohieldin has been the World Bank President's Special Envoy for the MDGs and Financing for Development Program and has been a representative of the World Bank Group in high-level discussions on SDG identification, securing funding sources for achieving them and coordination between the World Bank and multilateral funding institutions.
Following the adoption of the SDGs he co-formulated, Mohieldin served as Senior Vice President of the WB`s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which will end his contributions to this prestigious institution. During that time, he oversaw offices in Washington, New York, and Geneva.
“Mohieldin played a key role in strengthening the institutional relationship between the United Nations and the World Bank Group,” WB President said. “He played a leading role in activating efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and assisting countries in achieving their national goals.”
