Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, Climate Pioneer for the Egyptian presidency of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP27), the United Nations Special Envoy for Financing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, said that working to protect nature and preserve biodiversity requires scientific solutions and adequate financing.

Mohieldin added, during his participation in the "Climate Reform" session within the activities of the 27th Conference of the Parties, that scientific institutions and research centers are playing a good role in finding scientific solutions to nature and climate crises, but financing climate action faces great challenges and needs innovative solutions.

In this context, Mohieldin referred to the approach adopted by Seychelles and Barbados to provide the necessary financing for climate action, as these countries presented successful models for exchanging debt for investment in nature and climate projects.

He stated that financing activities to reduce carbon emissions are proceeding at a good pace with the support of the Glasgow Alliance to finance the race towards net zero emissions.
