United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced on Tuesday the appointment of Mahmoud Mohieldin as a special envoy on financing the 2030 agenda for sustainable development.
According to an official statement, Mohieldin will focus on regional and international issues related to public finance and support the implementation of the UN strategy for financing the 2030 plan under the umbrella of UN system, in cooperation with international institutions and the private sector.
“The Egyptian economist will ensure that there is a collective movement by the UN bodies, development partners and the private sector, in order to work with the member states to increase funding for the 2030 agenda, along with achieving the sustainable development goals," the statement read.

Mohieldin was the former minister for investment of Egypt from 2004 to 2010, and most recently, served as the World Bank Group senior vice president for the 2030 Development Agenda, United Nations Relations, and Partnerships.
He has got a master’s degree in economics and social policy analysis from the University of York, United Kingdom; a diploma of development economics from the University of Warwick; and a Bachelor of Science in economics from Cairo University.
He also participated in high-level certification programs at Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania and Georgetown University.
