On Wednesday, two powerful figures in the Arab world, Egyptian screenwriter and producer Mohamed Hefzy and Tunisian actress-producer Hend Sabri have been named Chevalier and Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters, France’s highest honors, respectively.
Stéphane Romatet, the ambassador of France in Egypt, honored the duo in a ceremony that took place in Cairo amid the attendee of the limited presence of their family and friends due to the preventative measures taken against the coronavirus.
The Order of Arts and Letters recognizes “eminent artists and writers, as well as people who have contributed significantly to furthering the arts in France and throughout the world.”
The order marks Sabri's second French accolade after the chevalier rank, which she received in 2014 for her efforts in culture and arts.
