Egypt’s presidential initiative for the early detection of chronic diseases and kidney disorders has screened more than 20 million citizens since its launch in September 2021, the Ministry of Health and Population said on Sunday.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the ministry’s official spokesperson, said the initiative remains ongoing and continues to provide free medical services nationwide. Speaking in a phone interview with the “Haza Al-Sabah” program on Extra News, Abdel Ghaffar said the campaign reflects President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s commitment to safeguarding public health.

He added that regular follow-up by Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, has played a key role in expanding the scope of healthcare coverage under the initiative.

According to the spokesperson, one of the main drivers behind the initiative’s success is its wide geographic reach, with services delivered through 3,601 primary healthcare units across all 27 governorates, ensuring easy access for citizens nationwide.

The initiative targets all citizens and residents aged 40 and above, as well as younger adults under 40 who have a family history of chronic illnesses or kidney disease, Abdel Ghaffar said.

He outlined the package of free medical services offered, which includes blood pressure measurement, random and cumulative blood sugar tests, cholesterol and blood fat analysis, kidney function tests, body mass index assessment, and awareness sessions on risk factors associated with chronic diseases.

Abdel Ghaffar noted that individuals diagnosed with chronic conditions or kidney disorders are immediately referred to affiliated hospitals participating in the initiative to receive the required treatment protocols free of charge, stressing that beneficiaries bear no financial burden.

The initiative forms part of Egypt’s broader efforts to promote preventive healthcare and reduce the long-term impact of chronic diseases through early diagnosis and timely treatment.
