Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Tianjin on Sunday, marking his first visit to China in over seven years, according to ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, held from August 31 to September 1 at the Meijiang Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Arriving on Saturday evening at Binhai International Airport, Modi underscored India’s commitment to advancing bilateral relations founded on mutual trust, respect, and sensitivity. Discussions focused on consolidating recent progress in India-China ties, with particular emphasis on practical steps such as the resumption of direct flights between the two nations.
"I am grateful for the warm welcome I received. Last year in Kazan, we had a decisive talk, which gave a meaningful direction for cooperation between the two countries,” Modi said.
The Indian leader further highlighted that collaboration between India and China, representing a combined population of 2.8 billion, carries profound importance not only for both nations but for global stability and development.
The SCO Summit in Tianjin brings together leaders from 20 countries and 10 international organizations.
Alongside Xi and Modi, key participants include Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, and ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn.
