Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched the ‘Chalo India Global Diaspora Campaign’ (‘Let us go to India Global Diaspora Campaign’) on 07 th March 2024. The aim of the campaign is to engage overseas Indian in promoting tourism in India.

‘Chalo India Global Diaspora Campaign’ aims to inspire the Indian diaspora to become Incredible India ambassadors and promote tourism to India.

The campaign is being launched based on the clarion call of the Prime Minister, wherein he requested Indian diaspora members to encourage at least 5 non-

Indian friends to travel to India every year. With more than 30 million overseas Indians, the Indian diaspora can serve as a powerful catalyst for Indian tourism, acting as cultural Ambassadors. Under the initiative, a dedicated portal (https://www.chaloindia.gov.in/) has been created. The portal will enable Non-Resident Indians to register and nominate friends and associates, facilitating direct outreach by the Tourism Ministry of India with promotional materials.

In 2022, India received more than 6.4 million foreign tourist. Indian authorities expect to surpass this figure as same number of tourists have already visited India during January – September 2023.

Government of India has also launched ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ (‘See Your Own Country’) initiative with the objective of creating awareness among its citizens about the rich heritage and culture of India and encourage Indians to travel within the country.
