National team forward Mohamed Salah has wrote an apology to  Egyptian fans on Twitter.

Salah tweet comes one day after South Africa knocked Egypt out of the African Cup of Nations' (AFCON) round of 16.

Thembinkosi Lorch scored for South Africa in 85' after he opened the scoring in the dying minutes.

"Very sad for our early exit from the African Cup of Nations .. We wished to complete the journey together and win the championship for our fans, which I need to thank for their usual support. We will hopefully learn from our mistakes, wishing the best for the team in the future."

Egypt had reached the full mark in the group stage for the fourth time in its history. However, fans were outraged following Egypt's early leave.

It is worth mentioning that the Pharaohs lead AFCON title holders with 7 trophies in 1957, 1959, 1986, 1998, 2006, 2008, and 2010.
