Former UN Middle East peace envoy Nickolay Mladenov said there is a “unique opportunity” for the Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza, as efforts continue to empower a Palestinian technocratic committee to manage the enclave’s affairs.
According to Al Qahera News, Mladenov affirmed the need to ensure that the technocratic committee is fully empowered and well-informed about the realities on the ground in Gaza. He called on all parties to cooperate with the committee and with his office to ensure the success of the transition process.
“The people of Gaza have gone through an extremely difficult period,” Mladenov said, adding that there is cautious optimism as residents search for new hope for the future.
He also noted that the technocratic committee possesses a strong mix of technical expertise that would allow it to respond quickly to pressing challenges, expressing hope that it would begin conducting detailed assessments of plans needed across all sectors.
Mladenov further underlined that it is in the interest of both Palestinians and Israelis for Gaza to follow a different and more stable path in the future, pointing to what he described as a growing sense of optimism among the population.
