Egypt Celebrates Port Said as Its 'Capital of Culture' for 2021

Under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Egypt’s Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem alongside Governor of Port Said Adel el-Ghadban will launch a celebration held for choosing Port Said province as the Egyptian Capital of Culture.

 

The celebration will take place on Sept. 9 at 10 p.m. at Port Said’s Culture Center and will continue for the rest of 2021.

 

In this regard, the Minister of Culture called for both public institutions and different sectors to continue to implement their completion strategies and their agenda for the upcoming ceremony with maximum efficiency.

The Ministry of Culture has been continuing, through a partnership with the Port Said provenance, to hold several folkloric festivals and international shows in order to honor the people of Port Said for their dedicated service.

 

The music ensembles of the Cairo Opera House, led by the Chairman of Opera Magdy Sabar, will give a concert on Thursday and Friday evening at Culture Center Theatre to entertain the people of Port Said city.

 

The festival features Disney performances by maven Maestro Ayman Mostafa and his band, singers and dancers, and culminates with special events.

 

According to the Ministry of Culture, the ceremony agenda has been prepared for this event, which includes 100 cultural, artistic, and intellectual events, in which all sectors of the ministry participate.

 

The festivals will be held in various cultural centers and circuses in the governorate, in addition to public zones and parks appropriate for presenting different theater performances, music and singing concerts, folk and performing arts shows, cinema screenings, book fairs, plastic art, and Arabic calligraphy exhibitions, entertainment seminars, cultural salons, and workshops for traditional crafts as well as artistic and literary workshops in poetry, story, and so on.

Also in this regard, cultural integration programs will be presented to provenances’ Kids and adults of the border areas, and introductory tours of the architectural and urban history of Port Said and the Suez Canal, as well as of the city's archaeological monuments will be organized.

It is worth mentioning that the tradition of celebrating and marking the Egyptian capital of culture was patronized by the Ministry of Culture for its activities to be held in the renowned coastal city that hosts the General Conference of Egyptian writers.

The special events and stunning ceremonies were supposed to be held in 2020 but were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its preventative measures.
