After completing his tour of the Giza Pyramids area to follow up on the latest developments in the project to develop visitor services in the region, Ahmed Issa, Minister of Tourism & Antiquities, went to the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), where he held a meeting with the leaders of the museum’s work team, to follow up on the implementation of work at the GEM.
This meeting was attended by senior officials of the Ministry of Tourism& Antiquities which came within the framework of the weekly meetings held to follow up on the development of work at the museum in preparation for its opening.
During the meeting, the latest developments in the work in the main exhibition halls were reviewed, where the Minister was briefed on the latest developments in the work there, whether by placing the antiquities inside the two curtains or installing the large pieces on the pedestals, as more than 95% of the work therein has been completed and is scheduled. The remaining work will be carried out within 10 days.
The meeting also reviewed means of environmental control as work is also being completed inside the halls and their two exhibition galleries in terms of lighting ratios, temperatures, and humidity by the international standard for the preservation and maintenance of antiquities.
The minister was also briefed on the development of the restoration work of King Khufu Ship Museum in light of the results of the work so far, as well as the rehabilitation of the first ship in a manner consistent with the modern museum display style.
The minister also discussed the latest restoration work on the second Khufu ship, which is being reassembled with the help of Japanese experts to ensure its completion and display alongside it.
During the meeting, the Minister directed the necessity of adhering to the specified timetable for completing all work, within the framework of the imminent opening of the museum.
