Minister of Youth & Sports Ashraf Sobhi has sent encouraging message tot he national team players after the heartbreaking defeat against Senegal in the World Cup qualifiers.
Despite their 1-0 victory in the first leg in Cairo, the Egyptian national team failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup after suffering a penalty shootout defeat to Senegal in Dakar.
The shootout saw Mohamed Salah, Ahmed Sayed Zizo, and Mostafa Mohamed all miss from the spot, for the Lions of Teranga to come out on top 3-1.
Following the defeat, Sobhi sent a message to the players, encouraging them to keep looking forward and work for a better future.
“Everyone is sad, but we are not broken, that’s what I’d like the players to know,” the Minister said.
“The majority of the players are still young and we should be preparing for the next AFCON.
“We were able to compete with the strong Senegalese team despite playing the second leg and extra time in Dakar.
