Nabila Makram Abdel-Shahid, Minister of State for Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs (SIEEA), participated in the celebration of the Coptic Orthodox Church held today, Wednesday, on the 8th anniversary of the ordination of His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark Holy See.
Pope Tawadros II is the 118th Patriarch in the history of the Popes of the Coptic Orthodox Church on a chair Saint Mark the Apostle, on November 18, 2012.
The minister congratulated His Holiness Pope Tawadros II.
She stressed that he is a symbol of love, humility, tolerance, generosity, humanity and knowledge. She affirmed that history will remember the national role of the Coptic Orthodox Church, and its great stance towards all issues that need the interconnection of it with institutions of the state during which the church’s role was evident.
His Holiness Pope Tawadros did not stop during his travels and pastoral visits to various countries of the world to show the true image of the homeland of Egypt.
Over the celebration of the feast of Pope Tawadros II, Prayers for the Divine Liturgy were held at the Church of the Virgin,(known as Qasriyah Al-Rayhan Chapel), the oldest church at Misr Al-Qademah District in south of Cairo.
A few number of bishops of the Coptic Orthodox Church attended the prayers, as a precaution, given the emergency conditions in the country due to the spread of the new Coronavirus. Pope Tawadros II was born on November 4, 1952. He obtained a Bachelor degree of Pharmacy at Alexandria University in 1975 with a very good grade with honors.
He also obtained a BA degree in the Seminary College from the Alexandria Seminary in 1983; he studied postgraduate studies in pharmaceutical engineering at Alexandria University.
He was ordained as a monk on July 31, 1988 in the name of the monk Theodor, and was promoted to be a priest on December 23, 1989.
He was moved to the service in Al-Buhaira Governorate on February 15, 1990, then he received the bishopric degree on June 15, 1997 in the name of Anba Tawadros, the general bishop in the diocese of Al-Buhaira, as assistant to HG Bishop Bakhomios, Bishop of Al-Buhaira and Matrouh and the five western cities.
He became responsible for serving King Mariout area and the desert sector and wrote many spiritual sermons and writings. His Holiness was chosen to be the successor to Pope Shenouda III, through a Draw on the same day eight years ago.
