Dr. Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, reviewed what has been achieved in the electricity sector during the past years.
The minister revealed that Egypt has transformed from a country with a deficit in this sector to a country with a surplus and an exporter.
He said that in the years 2011, 2012, and 2013, Egypt went through difficult conditions and was suffering from a large deficit in the electricity sector. In addition, the electricity was cut off in order to lighten the loads but based on the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the issue of electricity became “national security.”
The minister stressed that since July 2015 and until now, Egypt has not witnessed a power outage in order to lighten the load.
He pointed out that the energy strategy in Egypt has now been updated after entering green hydrogen, and it will be announced before the Cop27 climate conference in Sharm El-Sheikh.
