The "Stranger Things" actress Millie Bobby Brown is set to star in the sci-fi film "The Electric State", which will be directed by Anthony and Joe Russo.
Based on a graphic novel that holds the same name by Simon Stålenhag, "The Electric State" stars Brown as a teenage girl in an alternative future who realizes that a strange yet sweet robot that comes to her rescue was sent by her missing brother. She and the robot go to find her brother in an imaginative world of humans mixing with all manner of robots, uncovering a grand conspiracy in the process.
Recently, Universal Pictures landed the rights to adapt the science-fiction gothic novel as a feature film, which the Russos have been developing for several years.
"Electric State" will be produced by AGBO independent film and television production company led by the Russos brothers, which will reunite them with the "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Avengers: Endgame" screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who are set to write the script.
Brown is currently in production on the fourth season of Stranger Things, which resumed filming in October after halting production due to coronavirus.
She also recently appeared in Netflix's film "Enola Holmes".
In a statement, the Russo brothers said: “We are thrilled to have this deal with Universal, who has committed to a theatrical release of Electric State,".
"This is incredible news for us as filmmakers, and for audiences around the world who want an opportunity to experience film's in theaters again. This is also a positive sign that, as vaccines become available, the theatrical market is returning," they added.
Furthermore, the Russo brothers are finishing up film, "Cherry", starring "Spider-Man" actor Tom Holland, which is set to debut on Apple TV+ in early 2021 and in theaters on February 26th, 2021.
The film is based on a novel of the same name written by Nico Walker and stars Holland as a former Army medic who returns from Iraq with undiagnosed PTSD and starts robbing banks after being addicted to opioids.
It also stars Ciara Bravo, Jack Reynor, Forrest Goodluck, Bill Skarsgård, and others and it is set to be released.
