On Wednesday, a group of senior military officers announced a military coup in Gabon after the announcement of the country's presidential election result.
They made their statement on the national TV channel Gabon 24 announcing that they were seizing power following President Ali Bongo's victory.
They said that they represented all security and defense forces in the country.They declared the cancelation of the results of the elections, adding that all borders were closed until further notice, and state institutions dissolved.
It was also reported that sounds of gunfire in the capital Libreville, this morning.
The officers said: "In the name of the Gabonese people... we have decided to defend the peace by putting an end to the current regime."
Earlier Ali Bongo was reoppointed for a third term as president to continue his family control on power in the country
Opposition groups objected the results, claiming that there was fraudulent after the victory of Bongo.
