Microsoft will shut down its Skype tomorrow, May 5, after more than 20 years in service. Debuted in 2003, Skype was a revolutionary addition in online communications. Microsoft expressed that Skype shutting down will help the tech giant to focus more on its Teams video conferencing platform.

"With teams, users have access to many of the same core features they use in Skype, such as one-on-one calls and group calls, messaging and file sharing," Jeff Teper, president of Microsoft's Collaborative Apps and Platforms division, said in a Feb. 28 announcement.

Microsoft Teams offers various features that Skype did not, such as hosting meetings, calendars and creating and joining communities.
