Microsoft announced on Wednesday, that it detected a series of cyberattacks from Phosphorus group, which the company described as an 'Iranian actor', which targeted over 100 high-profile people.
The attacks aimed at a potential attendees of the upcoming Munich Security Conference and the Think 20 (T20) Summit in Saudi Arabia, Microsoft reported.
According to news reports, the attackers have been sending possible attendees spoofed invitations by email, and were sent to former government officials, policy experts, academics and leaders from non-governmental organizations.
On other hand, the attacks were successful in compromising several victims, including former ambassadors and other senior policy experts who help shape global agendas and foreign policies in their respective countries.
Later, the US FBI warned that “foreign actors” are attempting to interfere in the 2020 elections.
Also, the US intelligence officials explained that Russia and Iran had acquired voter registration information, and that Iran was behind threatening emails sent earlier in the week to registered Democrats, urging them to vote for Trump.
