The Michigan Capitol building was reopened to employees and legislators after it was closed earlier on Thursday due to a bomb threat.

Michigan State Police (MSP) stated that they got a call from a man in which they received a bomb threat.

They conducted a bomb sweep following the threat, giving the all-clear, and allowing state lawmakers to return to work.

The building is closed to the public due to Covid-19 restrictions.

State Sen. Mallory McMorrow posted a screenshot of a message she got that said MSP is investigating the threat at the Capitol.

Member of the Michigan House of Representatives Abdullah Hammoud commented on the situation on his Twitter account, as he said: “This is the current state of our democracy because of a tyrant.”

On Wednesday, supporters of Donald Trump stormed a congressional session held to endorse Joe Biden’s victory, as a last-minute desperate attempt by Trump to reverse his election loss led to chaos and accusations of an attempted “coup.”

Officials at the U.S. Capitol building announced the closure, and lawmakers said on Twitter that they were sheltering in their offices, as protesters – some of them carrying Trump flags – were seen walking through the building.
