Mexico filed a lawsuit against Ecuador, on Thursday, at the International Court of Justice after the raid on the Mexican embassy in Quito.
According to Mexican Foreign Minister Alicia Barcena, Mexico said it seeks to make Ecuador suspended from the United Nations (UN) unless it issues a public apology "recognizing the violations of the fundamental principles and norms of international law."
Barcena added in a press conference that the main aim of this lawsuit is to "guarantee the reparation of the moral damage inflicted on the Mexican state and its nationals."
Last Friday, Ecuadoran security forces stormed the Mexican embassy to arrest former Ecuadoran vice president Jorge Glas, who is wanted on corruption charges and was granted asylum by Mexico.
The incident sparked an international dispute and led Mexico to cut ties with Ecuador, pulling its diplomats out of the country.
Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador described that the goal of the suit is "that this doesn't repeat itself in any other country in the world, that international law is guaranteed."
Ecuadoran President Daniel Noboa defended his country's decision to make its forces storm the embassy to detain Glas because he posed a flight risk, saying he was willing to "resolve any difference" with Mexico.
