Mexico: 19 Killed in Shooting at Cockfighting Pit

On Sunday, 19 people were killed in an attack on an illegal cockfighting pit in western Mexico, authorities said.

Armed men attacked the pit and opened fire on the gathering, killing 19 people, and others were injured and taken to hospitals.

The attack took place in Las Tinajas, Michoacan state in Mexico where the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel and smaller local gangs are fighting for control of drug routes.

The Public Prosecutor's Office said in a statement that among the victims were 3 women, adding that it was trying to determine who was responsible for the shooting.

He added that all the victims were gunshot.
