Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is launching a new app called Threads that will directly compete with Twitter.
The app will be available for pre-order on Apple's App Store and will be integrated with Instagram. Threads is a "text-based conversation app" with a user interface similar to Twitter.
The launch of Threads will escalate the ongoing competition between Meta's Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter's Elon Musk. While Musk made a subtle jibe at Zuckerberg's company, Twitter announced plans to make its dashboard, TweetDeck, a paid service.
The Threads app will be free, with unrestricted post visibility and will collect user data. Zuckerberg hopes to attract disillusioned Twitter users to Threads, offering them a viable alternative platform with Meta's resources and Instagram's vast user base.
