Meta Platforms has introduced a new feature allowing paid Instagram subscribers to view Stories anonymously, without appearing in the content creator’s viewer list.
The feature is part of Meta’s expanding suite of subscription services across Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. Subscribers to the new Instagram Plus plan will be able to watch Stories without revealing their identity to account owners.
According to technology reports, the feature was tested in several countries, including the Philippines, Japan, and Mexico, before being rolled out as an official premium offering.
While some users have welcomed the tool as a privacy enhancement, others argue it undermines a key feature of Stories by preventing creators from seeing who viewed their content.
Privacy advocates have also raised concerns that anonymous viewing could make it harder to detect unwanted monitoring or stalking activity on the platform.
Meta said it plans to continue expanding its paid subscription services with additional AI-powered and creator-focused features in the future.
