Barcelona captain Lionel Messi on Friday commented on Barcelona loss of the La Liga title to Real Madrid saying, ""things have to change at the club."

The Blaugrana conceded the title to the Whites after they suffered a 2-1 loss to Osasuna, while Real Madrid managed to defeat Villarreal 2-1 to clinch their historic 34th title.

Real have 86 points after 37 games, seven more than last year’s champions Barcelona.

Messi, who is La Liga's top scorer on 23 goals with one game to go, said: "We didn't expect to finish in this way, but it sums up the year for us," BBC reported.

"We are a weak team who can be beaten with enough intensity and enthusiasm. We have lost a lot of points which we shouldn't have done. We have been very inconsistent," he added.

"We need to be self-critical, starting with the players, but also across the entire club. We are Barcelona, and we are obliged to win every game," Messi noted.
