German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that the latest data on the new Coronavirus infections are worrying in her country and other members of the European Union.

"The coming months will witness extremely dangerous events from the pandemic," she warned.

"Everyone is worried that the number of infections is increasing as everyone knows that the toughest months are yet to come," Merkel said at a press conference on Friday.

According to the German Ministry of Health's data, the total number of Coronavirus infections in the country reached 294,395, and the deaths were 9,508 deaths.

The death toll from the coronavirus globally exceeded one million deaths, while the number of infections in the world exceeded 34 million.

In terms of deaths, the total number of cases in America reached 207,000, in Brazil 144,000, and India's 99,000, according to US Hopkins University data.

Merkel announced that her country will restrict gatherings and impose fines on those who disregard health instructions, as part of efforts to prevent the spread of Coronavirus during the fall and winter seasons.

"The restrictions will be imposed to avoid imposing new general isolation across the country at any cost, and preserving the economy is a priority," she said after a conference with leaders of Germany's 16 states.

Merkel added that the officials learned a lot and passed the summer well, but they know that harder times await them in the fall and winter.

The gradual increase in infections, which is noticeable in some areas, is cause for concern."

And she continued that the strategy of active foci will end the attendance of private parties at a rate of 25 people and public concerts by 50 people in areas where the infection rate reaches 35 people per 100 thousand within seven days.

She added that if the rate reaches 50 people per 100,000, private celebrations will be restricted to the attendance of a maximum of 10 people and 25 people in public parties.

Experts revealed that the German economy shrank by 9.7% in the second quarter of 2020 with the collapse of household spending, business investment, and trade at the height of the pandemic.

According to European standards, Germany has seen relatively low infection and death rates so far during the pandemic, but Merkel said that cases could reach 19,200 per day if current trends continue.

Germany recorded a total of 287,421 corona infections, including 9,471 deaths, according to the Robert Koch Institute for infectious diseases.

Berlin, early Thursday, raised its comprehensive warning against travel to all countries outside the European Union, due to the second wave of the Coronavirus.

Given the high rates of infection, the German Foreign Ministry has expanded a standing travel warning to parts of Belgium to include the entire country and has warned against travel to Wales, Northern Ireland, Gibraltar, and Iceland.

It also warned against travel to France, with the exception of the Grand East region, and issued other travel warnings to parts of Estonia, Ireland, Lithuania, Romania, Slovenia, Hungary, and Croatia.

Germany imposed a global travel warning last March when the virus was prevalent in northern Italy, but it raised it from most European countries in June.

In September, Berlin began re-issuing warnings to regions within Europe, when infections rose above the level of 50 cases per 100,000 people over the course of a week.

This means that in the event that the spread of the virus is less than this limit, travelers will be able to return to Germany without going into quarantine, waiting for a negative test.

Currently, unrestricted entry and exit will only be possible in parts of Europe and Georgia.
