German Chancellor Angela Merkel tested negative for COVID-19 after meeting Macron during last week’s EU summit according to Reuters.
“The chancellor was tested a few days after the EU summit, as is routine,” a spokeswoman said, adding that the result of the test was negative.
“The chancellor sends the French president her best wishes for a speedy recovery,” she said.
It is worthy to mention that the French President Emmanuel Macron has contracted COVID-19, according to local media reports on Wednesday.
The Elysee released a statement stating that the French president tested positive for the Covid-19.
“In accordance with current health regulations applicable to all, the president will isolate himself for 7 days. He will continue to work and carry out his activities remotely,” the statement expressed.
Also, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez will quarantine until Dec.24 after being in contact with French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday.
In addition, Portugal’s Prime Minister Antonio Costa has canceled official trips and is in self-isolation.
Costa displayed no symptoms and was awaiting the result of a coronavirus test he got earlier on Thursday, his office said.
