World F1 Champion Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton Contracts Coronavirus

The International Automobile Federation (FIA) announced Tuesday that British Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has been infected with Covid-19.

"FIA" said that the Mercedes driver contracted Coronavirus, therefore will not participate in the penultimate round of the season scheduled for Sunday at the Sakhir Grand Prix in Bahrain.

"The FIA, Formula 1 and Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team can today confirm that during mandatory pre-race PCR testing for the Sakhir Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton has tested positive for COVID-19," the federation said.

"In accordance with COVID-19 protocols and public health authority guidelines in Bahrain he is now isolating. All contacts have been declared." the federation added.

"The procedures set out by the FIA and Formula 1 will ensure no wider impact on this weekend’s event." the statement continued.

The announcement comes after Hamilton scored, Sunday, in Bahrain his fifth successive and eleventh victory this season, affirming that he fully deserves to win the world title for the seventh time in his career, and the equation for the achievement of German legend Michael Schumacher.
