Sharm El-Sheikh has welcomed delegations of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM), as Egypt hosts for the first time the official meetings of the Assembly.

The event, held from September 12 to 14 at Cleopatra Resort in Sharm El-Sheikh, brings together parliamentary speakers and delegations from European and Southern Mediterranean countries, with extensive coverage by local and international media.

 Reception and Proceedings

Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport witnessed a well-organized reception for the Assembly’s delegations, with welcoming teams coordinated by the Egyptian House of Representatives under the supervision of its Protocol Committee.

Delegates were transferred to their accommodations and the conference venue amidst highly efficient logistics. Their arrival was accompanied by welcoming events that highlighted Egypt’s hospitality and smooth cooperation among official bodies. The delegations also noted the city’s advanced tourism infrastructure.

Significance of the Event and Key Issues

The Assembly’s convening in Egypt underscores the country’s commitment to parliamentary diplomacy and to strengthening dialogue and partnership across the Mediterranean.

Discussions in Sharm El-Sheikh focus on pressing regional challenges, particularly boosting economic and cultural cooperation, promoting youth participation, and developing political, social, and environmental mechanisms through the use of modern technology and artificial intelligence between the northern and southern shores of the Mediterranean.

The program includes a main plenary session in addition to committee meetings, as well as field visits, most notably to Saint Catherine’s Monastery, along with a Nile cruise to showcase the beauty and diversity of Egyptian tourism.

 Official Attendance and Opening Remarks

The opening ceremonies feature welcome speeches, including those by Counselor Dr. Hanafi Gebali, Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives, and MP Mohamed Aboul Enein, Deputy Speaker of Parliament and President of the PA-UfM.

They will outline the roadmap, key issues, and recommendations expected during the meetings. Images of arriving delegations reflect the high-level participation of parliamentary leaders and decision-makers from across the region.

 Cultural and Heritage Activities

The reception program includes cultural and heritage activities designed to highlight Egypt’s tourism development and the progress achieved in Sharm El-Sheikh. Delegates will also participate in visits to unique historical landmarks aimed at deepening Mediterranean cooperation in both tourism and culture.
