A few months remain until the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held in our country.

Entrusting this event to Azerbaijan not only informs the reputation of our country in the international world, but also this event will be the main stage in our transition to a green economy.

It should be noted that the selection of our country to host COP29, one of the world's largest and most important interstate events, this year is another international victory of Azerbaijan's head of state, Ilham Aliyev.

This is one of the greatest successes of the head of state in the field of foreign policy, and at the same time, it is a solid response to some countries and international circles that have recently conducted an ugly campaign against Azerbaijan.

By hosting this important event, our country will be in the world's attention with another contribution to the fight against climate change, which is one of the biggest global problems.

The unanimous opinion on holding the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change - COP29 in Azerbaijan is a manifestation of the great respect, trust and support of our country by the international community.

This is also an indicator of the successful foreign policy of the Azerbaijani leadership on a global scale and gaining the reputation of a reliable partner. Because the prediction of the participation of 70-80 thousand guests representing most countries of the world at COP29 shows the unprecedented global scale of the event.

One of the main aspects of this Conference is that the participating states must update their legislation in accordance with the obligations arising from international agreements.

As a country that consistently pays special attention to the issues of climate change, sustainable development and ecology, Azerbaijan participates in events dedicated to climate issues every year and both increases its experience in this field and achieves more progressive results.

At the moment, very serious preparations are underway for the high level of this prestigious event. Our country is now entering the active period of the COP29 presidency, and in connection with this, state institutions will increase their efforts to successfully hold this event.

It should be noted that the decision to hold COP29 in Baku also means global support for Azerbaijan's "green energy" policy. In accordance with this, 2024 was declared the "Year of Solidarity for the Green World" in Azerbaijan by the order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

Currently, despite being an oil and gas country, Azerbaijan has defined the creation of "green energy" types and the introduction of "green energy" to world markets as the new main direction of its energy policy. Large-scale works in this direction continue successfully in the liberated Karabakh region.

A clear example of this is the commissioning of the 330-kilovolt "Jabrayil" junction substation built within the framework of the Azerbaijan-Turkey-Europe international energy corridor project with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev, and the opening of substations and hydropower plants built in 12 regions. Also, the opening of the newly built 10.5 megawatt "Jahangirbeyli" Hydropower Station of "AzerEnergy", and the opening of the 110 kilovolt "Aghdam" junction substation in December 2023.

The export of electricity produced on the basis of renewable and "green energy" means the beginning of a new era in Azerbaijan's energy policy.
